Do you ever find yourself frustrated because you often misplace things? Well, you’re not alone! According to a recent survey of 3000 adults, we spend an average of 10 minutes each day searching for lost items.
Over a lifetime, that adds up to a staggering 153 days!
Top 3 most lost items
Can you guess what the 3 top most lost items are?
1. Mobile / smartphone
2. House keys
3. Car Keys
All items, we really don’t want to leave home without!
The research also showed we lose up to 9 items every day…that’s nearly 200,000 in a lifetime.
But when we compare this statistic to how much is kept, it makes sense. Annually around $10.5 billion worth of unused household items are recorded in Australia.
One of the main culprits
So how does this manifest in our homes…If you’ve heard yourself say “this might come in handy one day, so I’ll keep it just in case…”, you’re definitely not alone, this is a big reason many of us keep hold of stuff! But then irony pops his head in, because even if the item could be useful, either we forget we own it or can’t find it when we need it. So what happens, we end up buying another one.
If you can relate
Let me ask you this:
How much is 153 days of your life worth to you? Is it less than the items you are holding onto?
Disorganisation is a vicious cycle
Either we can’t find or forget we own something, which results in us going out and buying another. Only we don’t have a suitable place to store our newly purchased item because of the amount of stuff we have, so we end up shoving it anywhere. Which means when we need it again, we can’t find it or forget we own it and go out and buy another one…
Ready to make a change?
Be mindful of how much you are holding onto items ‘just in case’. Reality is, it’s unlikely to be saving you much money, it’s more likely to be costing you.
