I remember when I was little, the excitement of making our home look festive. But when it came to the chore of putting them away…there was a lot of complaining and dragging of feet! If this happens in your family, let’s look at how to easily and effectively store Christmas decorations.
Before you put away your Christmas decorations, have a look at what wasn’t displayed and declutter your collection.
Maybe some decorations are memorabilia and tug at your heart strings. Reminding you of a special time or you just love it and can’t find another one.
Clarify why you are happy for each Christmas decoration to take up space in your home especially if it only gets a yearly passing glance.
January is a great time to find Christmas decorations on sale. If you are heading to the shops to buy more decorations, make sure you declutter first so you know exactly what you need.
Looking at your current Christmas decorations storage solutions, is it easy to manage?
How about those pesky lights?
There are many products available that are designed for all the weird and wonderful shapes that make up Christmas decorations.
Decoration boxes with dividers, reels to help keep the lights untangled (there is one at Kmart for just $3!). All sorts of cost effective storage solutions! But remember it’s only cost effective if you need and use it. Unused storage solutions become clutter themselves, so make a list of what you need.
If you store baubles in a big container, use tissue paper (I’m sure you will have some left over from Christmas!) to cushion each layer.
To give you an idea of what is available, below are snapshots of products from Bunnings and Kmart. Be warned, they sell out fast!
